What happened to my socks?

I found out a little late that Celtic Woman was coming to Seattle, so was left with tickets about half way back in the center floor. Not too bad, really. The guest I brought with me was from a country where this type of concert is incredibly rare, and I hoped the language barrier would not be too distressing. I was apprehensive that the songs on the new album, 'Postcards from Ireland', leaned a little more towards traditional than the balance of songs on previous albums. But, having seen them three times before, I knew the production would be top notch, even without the direction of David Downs. I was hoping they would perform the song 'Beeswing' from the new album as it was a very likable contemporary folk song. We arrived and found our seats to be fine but we had to trade seats with a couple so my guest, who is a little short, could see the stage while looking between two other guest's heads. Not a problem with such a receptive crowd and we got settled quickly and the lights dimmed. I had to provide some interpretation services as the show went on, and I am sure that, even with my low voice, it aggravated a few people. But people seemed to understand that I kept it to a minimum, and kept my voice low. Meghan was quite good and was tasked with singing my favorite Celtic Woman song, 'The Voice'. One would think she did it with spectacular fashion, but I have Lisa Kelly's version forever on my mind. And that is a shame as I should judge Meghan's rendition on it's own merits. Lisa Kelly projects an incredible power into the song, while Meghan uses the song to project power. Hard to explain, but a few people will understand that. Muirgen is the newest member and was brought on by none other than the legendary Celtic woman performer, Susan McFarland. Her voice blends well and I look forward to her being a part of Celtic Woman for a few years yet. I think she has yet to reach her full potential, much like Chloe is so much more than what she was 18 years ago, so there is a lot of room there and, I think, with good vocal coaching, her potential is incredible. I have not been following Celtic Woman closely, so was very surprised that Chloe was on stage. The original member brought so much to the show and she was stunningly gorgeous. Her vocal power has increased immensely since she first took to the stage with Celtic Woman 18 years ago, when she was just fifteen years old. Her voice blends seamlessly with the rest of the women and her solos are of a quality we can call 'masterful'. She did, however, overpower the rest of the women who are, in themselves, powerhouses. So that says something about the energy emanating from the group. Did I tell you she is gorgeous? Tara is incredible on fiddle. She replaced the spritely Máiréad some years back. While not as energetic, she is quite a bit more playful with her approach to the stage. It was fun watching her antics as she 'played games' with other cast members. And she seems to have just the right amount of tension in how she plays the fiddle. She seems not too serious but, at the same time, intense. How does she do it? The supporting dancers and musicians seemed to be having a good time. My guest said the dancers were quite handsome and gave me 'that look'. Yes, well, I told her I that Chloe was absolutely gorgeous. Celtic Woman brought out the bagpipes to help with their version of 'Amazing Grace'. In a city where religion is openly scorned, it was so good to see the reception they got for this song. Absolutely top notch and using each of the three voices to project the power of this traditional hymn. Accented well with Tara's violin playing (saying she was playing the fiddle in this setting would be a sacrilege). For me, they performed Ireland's unofficial national anthem so well it left me breathless. Everyone was listening with such rapt attention, not a sound was heard in the hall except the three voices lifted in the timeless sadness of 'Danny Boy'. It was the best rendition I have ever heard, and that is saying a lot. As it finished, and the last note faded into memory, I rose to my feet as it was the only way to properly sow my appreciation. My guest was concerned that I was the only one on my feet, but I am sure the other guests understood. After the concert finished and the people were filing out, I asked my guest what she thought of the experience. I should not have been so concerned. She was beaming. "I have never experienced such a show before. It was like a big party. The audience was clapping at the right moments, and listening in silence the rest of the time. I did not understand the words, but I understood the music. I will never forget this from my visit to America." I smiled and told her that I needed to search for my socks. I told her we have a saying in America that they 'Knocked my socks off". She smiled, said she understood....... and helped my search for my socks....
